Rubato Piano Drills
Rubato Piano Drills (RPD) is your ultimate piano training companion. Through guided drills and real-time feedback, it helps you hone your skills, boost confidence, and master the keys one note at a time.
In Figure 1, the interface features a grand staff, keyboard, and intuitive controls, presenting musical elements in a format familiar to traditional piano songbooks. This visual alignment helps users build confidence as they transition to reading and performing from sheet music.
RPD offers four progressive play modes:
- Notes
- Scales
- Full Chords
- Arpeggiated Chords
- Sheet Music
Modes 1 through 4 are presented as interactive drills, encouraging repetition and
variation to reinforce muscle memory and musical fluency. Once users gain
proficiency in these foundational exercises, they can advance to Mode 5, which
introduces simple sheet music reading- simulating the experience of playing directly from a
songbook.
RPD focuses primarily on a few core musical elements and does not support all types of notation or expressive markings.
RPD can be used in a variety of learning environments, as illustrated in the following figures. It supports independent practice for solo users, structured lessons in teacher–student settings, and collaborative exploration between mentors and learners. Whether you’re building skills on your own or guiding someone else, RPD adapts to your musical journey.

Rubato Piano Drills Creator
Rubato Piano Drills Creator (RPDC) is a companion app designed to work seamlessly with Rubato Piano Drills (RPD). It allows users to create simple chord sequences that can be used within the RPD app for practice and performance. These sequences can be based on material from your favorite songbook; however, RPDC and RPD focus primarily on core musical elements and do not support all types of notation or expressive markings. For consistency and ease of use, both apps emphasize basic notation.
